View from window in hotel room at Hotel Leger in Mokolumne Hill. Scary yet evocative balcony; how many miners sat out here wishing for more gold? For about a year my camera was set on a blue filter…sigh
I’m reading today at 4 p.m. at the Mokolumne Hill Library. “Mok Hill” is an amazing, untouched Gold Rush town with very little tourism. I’m going at the invitation of Antoinette May, celebrated writer of Pilate’s Wife, who lives there.
Antoinette also runs a very popular writers conference there that happens in May, the Gold Rush Writers Conference; it’s not too late to register. I was a speaker at last year’s conference and thoroughly enjoyed the intimate setting (in a splendid Gold Rush hotel) and group of dedicated writers. This year Mary Volmer is speaking: she’s a wonderful writer and speaker.
One way or another, I hope to see you in Mok Hill!
. . . .
